Google's Adsense
program is a good base for your internet ad revenue.
If you want to get started earning a nice long term income from
internet advertising Google's Adsense is a very good place to start.
The adsense program is easy for publishers (website owners) to
understand and easy for them to put the ads on their pages. The
rules are clear and the whole thing works really well.
You as the publisher place a little snippet of JavaScript code on
your site for each ad and Google does the rest. When someone on
your site clicks on an ad, the advertiser is charged a fee and Google
splits the fee with you.
Google has plenty of training and advice about where to place the ads
and what kind of ads to use for internet advertising. There are a huge variety of sizes and
shapes to choose from making it easy to put them on your site in an
attractive fashion.
You can change the font and the color and specify what kinds of ads
you will allow and what kinds you won't.
Targeting works for your internet advertising
With Adsense, a Google robot spiders your site to determine what type
of ads should be displayed. Targeting ads to the topic of the page
it's displayed on dramatically improves the effectiveness of the ads.
That is why the program works so well for internet advertising.
My website about water heaters and related issues gets ads for
tankless water heaters. My cruise vacation website gets ads for
cruise lines and travel luggage. My site about inventions gets ads
targeted to inventors from patent lawyers and invention submission
firms.
Different topics attract different advertisers, and some advertisers
pay more per click than others. You can use the Google Adwords
tool as though you were going to do some ppc advertising to find out how
much advertisers are paying for different topics. You can play
with your keywords to try for higher paying ads, but be careful not to
reduce your free organic search engine traffic.
Some of my sites average only a dollar or two per thousand page
views, while other sites make over ten dollars per thousand page views.
Find the right topic and it can pay off big time. To properly monetize
your website requires not only internet advertising, but a topic that is
popular with advertisers for your pages to get top dollar from that
advertising.
Positioning the ads correctly
Positioning the ads correctly makes a big difference. That's
something I recently discovered. Switching my ads from the right hand
side of the page to the left hand side of the page dramatically
increased my Adsense income! On one site my income almost doubled,
and on all of the sites the ad income went up. I should pay more
attention to some details.
With vertically oriented ads, the higher up the ad is the more clicks
the ad gets, generally speaking, there are always exceptions. With
horizontal ads, the ads are more expensive as they move to the left.
There are lots of other ad agencies besides Adsense, and once your
site has reached a decent number of visitors per day they will come
pester you to put their ads on your site. I've tried a few, and I
am experimenting with some others, but so far Adsense seems a step or
two ahead of the ones I'm familiar with.
I strongly recommend you do not clutter up your site with ads from
several advertisers. There is nothing wrong with more than one
advertiser, but don't use too many ads or clutter up your page...Google
and the other big engines will lower the value of your site.
Test, test, test
You should experiment with your internet advertising by adjusting the ad positioning, color, and size to
find what works for you best. Sometimes just changing the color
can have a dramatic effect. Test, test, test! |
