What is an affiliate sales program?
An affiliate sales program is an advertising program offering a monetary incentive for webmasters to drive traffic to the advertiser's website.
For instance, if you belonged to my Chilipepper
Affiliate sales program, you could put together a website about home
improvements, and put a banner or text ad with a link to my Chilipepper
Site, and when a visitor clicks over to my site, and if they purchase a
Chilipepper Appliance, then you get a commission.
Sounds easy. The catch is you have to have traffic to your
site. But if you have traffic, then you want to have affiliate links
that are appropriate, and there are all kinds.
There are programs for clothing, jewelry, travel, adult sites, gambling
sites, and just about everything you can imagine. Finding them isn't
hard, just search for affiliate programs on Google or any other search
engine and start clicking.

Just throwing a banner or text ad up will not work though. You
need to put some work into it, then you can sit back and watch...or keep
improving.
You need to put together an article or page or some form of information
that people are interested in, and then within the text of the document
include links to your affiliate advertisers.
You need to pre-sell the product you are linking to. If the topic
is hot tubs, then you can highly recommend a certain brand and provide a
link. The better you convince your audience of their need for the
product, or that the product will improve their life in some way, the more
likely they will click through and make a purchase, earning you that
commission.
If you can get substantial traffic to your site, and have some good affiliates,
then you can make a substantial sum of money. There are affiliate
sites out there hauling in thousands of dollars per day. Most are
bringing in no money at all. Those are the ones that don't work at
it, just throw up a banner and hope for a commission. Doesn't work
that way.
Put together a website with valuable content that people are looking
for, join affiliate programs and advertising programs like adsense,
optimize your site for good search engine placement, and viola! You
will be making money.
