Here's how...FREE! Providing valuable free information is a great way to get traffic to come to my
site. The more traffic my sites get the more advertising I can
sell...so I make more money. Let me give you a little background information about myself and how
I ended up doing this internet stuff, and giving away free my "secrets" of
internet marketing. (There are no secrets...come on). I first got on the internet back in about 1996 or 97, and was using it
for research to put together a business plan to market a new invention I
had come up with. My partner and I decided we needed a website to
sell our new product, the Chilipepper
Appliance. We were, of course, broke. So I took some online
tutorials on HTML and used an editor that was free from AOL, and built a
website. Our product pumps hot water from the water heater to the fixtures very
rapidly without running any water down the drain. We knew no one would be searching for anything like that, so I figured
the closest I could come to a targeted audience was people who were
searching the internet for answers to problems with their water heaters. So I built lots of pages about how water heaters work, how to fix them,
and stuff like that. Then I put links and ads to the Chilipepper home page
on all of the water heater pages. That was around 1998. Skipping up to a couple of years ago, when the affiliate programs were
getting all the headlines....I was getting about 1,000 visitors a day to
my site. I thought I would try this affiliate thing and see if it
worked. I joined Commission Junction, an affiliate program, and put
some ads for tankless water heaters on the site. I couldn't believe it when I started getting checks for
commissions. Huh? I checked into it and discovered people were
actually buying tankless water heaters online. It wasn't a lot of
money, but I was making around $100.00 a month without raising a finger. I'd built a website, cruisesrfun.com,
for our friends and family. My wife and I like to cruise and so we
would use her laptop to upload pictures and text about our vacations as we
took them. Amazingly enough, you can upload from your laptop with high speed wireless
from the deck of the cruise ships! I thought that maybe I could do the same with my cruises web site. I put up ads for travel luggage, cruises lines, and that kind
of stuff. I wasn't getting much traffic, and was only making maybe
$20.00 a month. Still, without lifting a finger. Along came Google's Adsense program. I read about this new program and decided to give it a try. I put
up some adsense ads on my site, and wow! I was making a lot more
than before. A lot more. Google's guidelines dictate that I
cannot say how much I make but it was getting my attention! So I was thinking why not build more sites, and maybe I should try one
of those optimization programs to see if I could get more
traffic....
